What is a Blog?
Blogs are a good way to share your ideas, thoughts, and passions with the world. People use blogs for different reasons, from sharing their everyday activities to providing news, cooking, health, fashion, and lifestyle posts.
So how about we get started? Let’s dive in together.
1. SELECT YOUR PREFERRED BLOGGING PLATFORM
First, decide what blogging platform you will be using. The two most popular blogging platforms are WordPress and Blogger.
WordPress: The number one blogging platform worldwide, it offers countless plugins, add-ons, and is easy to customize. Around 32% of all websites on the internet are powered by WordPress. This shows how many shares of the global market it holds and what impact it has on global users.
Blogger: Blogger is a completely free and easy-to-use platform owned by Google. It can be customized with HTML code, so there are more customization options. In terms of blog usage distribution, Blogger has quite a big difference. Although Blogger is second, it does not reach the numbers of WordPress
Personally, I recommend WordPress self-hosted blogs. Why WordPress self-hosted blogs? You own your blog, you have total control over it, and it will look much more professional.
How Much Does It Cost To Self-Host My WordPress Blog?
All you’ll need is a;
Web Hosting: An Internet hosting service that allows you to host your blog online. Hosting plans vary depending on your provider. Pricing starts at $3 per month and can go as high as $10 per month.
2. SET UP YOUR BLOG THROUGH WEB HOSTING AND REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME
Getting started with a self-hosted WordPress blog requires a domain name and Web hosting (Hostinger, Bluehost, Qservers, Whoghost). Select your hosting plan, domain name, and fill out the registration information on your chosen provider.
No matter which hosting provider you choose, check to ensure one-click installation is available. As soon as you’ve registered, go to the admin panel and find the one-click WordPress installation button. The dashboard for your new blog is then accessible. A typical URL for this is www.yourblogname.com/wp-admin. The whole process can take up to 15 minutes because of the domain activation.
3. WordPress BLOG CONFIGURATION
Even though your blog is operational, there are still some settings you must do;
1. General Settings (Settings> General): a. Site Title b. Tagline
2. Visibility on Google (Settings> Reading): Ensures that engines like Google will index your new blog
3. Permalinks (Settings Reading): How your blog posts, page URLs will look like.
4. BLOG DESIGN: USE A THEME
In your WordPress dashboard, click Appearance and then Themes to customize the appearance of your blog. Install free themes by clicking Add New, navigating through the list to find one that you like, and clicking Install. It would be best for you to choose something that looks professional and can easily be customized. There are theme websites like ThemeForest and you can buy a theme for around $40 there.
