Purpose of the business visa:
The purpose of the business visa is to allow foreign nationals to come to Canada to conduct business activities. The visa allows business people to meet with clients, attend trade shows, and explore business opportunities.
To be eligible for a business visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Valid passport
- Sufficient funds to cover your expenses while in Canada
- Carry out legitimate business activities while in Canada
- You must meet all other requirements of the visa class you are applying for

Duration of stay: Up to six months. Extensions are possible if you apply for one before your current visa expires.
Application Process: You must submit your application online through the Visa Application Centre (VAC) in your country or region of residence. The VAC will collect your biometrics (fingerprints and a photo). Once you have paid the processing fee and submitted all required documents, the VAC will forward your application to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for processing.
You can also submit your application by mail, but you will need to provide your biometrics at a later date.
Processing time: The processing time for business visa applications can vary depending on the country or region where you apply.
Fees: The cost of a business visa is $100 CAD. You will also need to pay the biometrics fee of CAD 85 when you submit your application.
How to extend your stay: You can apply to extend your stay as a business visitor if you still meet the eligibility criteria and if you have not exceeded the maximum allowable stay of six months. To do so, you must submit an Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada (IMM 5709) before your current status expires.
You can also apply for a work permit if you meet the eligibility criteria and if you have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
What you can do with a business visa:
-Attend business meetings
-Consult with business associates
-Give speeches or take part in conventions, seminars, workshops, or other events as long as you are not being paid by a Canadian source
-Undertake independent research
-Negotiate and sign contracts
You cannot work on a business visa. If you want to work in Canada, you must apply for a work permit.
What you cannot do with a business visa:
-Work in Canada without a work permit
-Study in Canada without a study permit
-Immigrate to Canada
-Give professional or amateur performances, or participate in any competition, as part of your business activities
-Be employed by a Canadian company, unless you have a valid work permit
-Own or manage a Canadian business, unless you have a valid work permit
-Engage in research for which you will receive remuneration from a Canadian source
-Provide professional or commercial services to Canadians or businesses in Canada, unless you have a valid work permit.
If you want to do any of the above activities, you must apply for the appropriate visa.
Use this application guide if:

-You are applying from the United States and your country or region is not listed in Appendix A.
Appendix A lists the countries and regions whose nationals can apply online for a business visitor visa. If your country or region is not on the list, you must apply for a business visitor visa on paper.
What is a Business Visitor Visa?
A business visitor visa allows you to temporarily enter Canada for business purposes. You may conduct international business activities such as:
-Attending business meetings, conferences, conventions or seminars;
-Consulting with business associates;
-Giving lectures or taking part in educational, scientific, professional or business conventions, conferences or seminars;
-Conducting independent research; and/or
-Negotiating and signing certain agreements.
You cannot work in Canada on a business visitor visa unless you apply for and receive a work permit. If you want to study in Canada while you are here on a business visitor visa, you must apply for and receive a study permit.
You may not need a business visitor visa if you are from a visa-exempt country or territory and you meet the requirements to enter Canada as a business visitor. If you do not need a visa, make sure you carry proper identification for travel such as your passport when you come to Canada.

You must meet certain eligibility criteria and provide specific documents when you apply for a business visitor visa. These requirements are listed in the following sections:

All applicants must:
-Complete the application forms;
-Pay the applicable visa fees; and,
-Include all required documents.
Do not submit your application until you have everything listed in the checklist in this application guide. If you do not, we will return your incomplete application to you. This will cause a delay in processing your application.
You must show that you meet certain eligibility criteria when you apply for a business visitor visa. For example, you must prove that:
-You to leave Canada at the end of your visit;
-You have enough money for your stay in Canada; -You have no criminal or immigration-related convictions; and,
-You are not a risk to the security of Canada.
You may have to provide additional documents at the port of entry. For example, you may need to present evidence of your business activities in Canada and your travel itinerary.
If you are from a country or territory where an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required, make sure you have one before you board your flight to Canada. You will not be able to board your flight without an eTA if one is required.
To be eligible for a business visitor visa, you must:
-Prove to an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit;
-Have enough money for your stay in Canada;
-Be law-abiding and have no record of criminal activity (we may call you for an interview to find out more);
-Convince an immigration officer that you will not try to work or study while you are in Canada without proper authorization;
-Convince an immigration officer that you are not a risk to the security of Canada;
-Respect the conditions in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations; and,
-Respect the conditions of any previous stays in Canada (if applicable).
You may have to provide additional documents when you apply, and at the port of entry. For example, you may need to present evidence of:
-The purpose of your trip to Canada;
-Your ties to your home country or residence;
-Your financial status; and,
To complete your application forms, follow these steps:

6. Mail or bring your completed application, along with all required documents to your nearest visa office

Note: If you are applying for a business visitor visa on behalf of another person, you will need to include a Letter of Introduction from that person with their application. The letter should state that they permit you to apply on their behalf, list any other representatives they have, and explain why they cannot apply for the visa themselves.
